Assemblage

This project consisted of assembling unwanted or disposable objects of our own a creating them into a sculptural form. Whilst most people in my class starting glueing their objects altogether I decided to go for a different approach.
I find that as a person I am very organised and tidy. I didn't want my assemblage to have a feeling of messiness and most of my work has a simple and clinical feeling to it and I wanted this piece of work to reflect that too.
I decided to use the workshop for my assemblage and I  vacuum formed different objects that revealed my identity into a mould. The most successful of all the various object I tried as the form of my keys. I did this mould in neoprene which gave the keys surreal, soft and lightweight  qualities.
The assemblage represents the keys as my identity as they are the way in to my home and personal life. No other space is as personal as my room. It's where I ca be completely myself with no inhibitions and act as I please.

The 'Un'

The prefix 'Un' has a lot of different meaning when attached to different words. Using the idea of 'Un' it was a starting point for making a project about myself. I focused in on the 'Un' of defined (undefined). This led me to the idea that as people we're all undefined in the terms that we have multiple personalities for different situations we're in.
In simple terms I thought that I couldn't define myself as one single person as I appear to be a range of different people depending on where I am, what I am doing and who I am with. This led me to believe that all these different versions of myself make up the whole person.
In order to portray this idea I made a 'Book of Beth'. The book shows me acting out 37 different versions of me in different situations. These are a selection of my favourite versions.

Book of Beth

On My Own

With Children

At Work

On The Train

In reality and after looking through my Book of Beth I look exactly the same in all different situations I acted out. Although we may act differently around different people we're not really lots of version of ourselves. We're simply ourself acting in order to fit in to the situation that we have been put in to.

Person Project

Our Person Project is the first project at part 2 in the course. It's the first time we can really explore our own ideas and get on with something that we'e interested in. The only constraint in this project is 'Person' being the starting point. There were also various different mini and one day projects built in to the main part of the project.

It's Been While

Shamefully I fell out of the habit of posting on my blog. Luckily I've been making lots of art in the mean time to share on here now. Enjoy!
