Just A Little Something

Aside from making artwork for my art course, I do doodle and enjoy my iPhone 4S for capturing moments of things I like in life. A few of these got forgotten a long the way and now I want to share with you a few of my favourite things.

Coin Blocks

The coin blocks are the first assemblage I have made using real money. The coins are balanced in each position and arranged in formations. Until the coin blocks are photographed they have little significance. The idea was to make a coin structure that could then be added to, to build the assemblage up using blocks like any construction.
Each block consists of three coins bonded together in a triangular form. From this the blocks can be arranged in various different formations and structures.

 

The Final Project

Work for the final project has been underway for a few weeks. I've begun to look at the value of art and what gives it it's value. In response to this the work I make will be made from objects or items of monetary value, money being a prime example. This will give my work an instant value and price for the market
(that's the idea anyway).

How work is valued in the art market doesn't always depend on the cost of inputs such as time and materials. Sometimes who has bought and owns your work can instantly increase the value. This is like no other market as price isn't dependant on supply and demand like the usual market forces. It's quite a broad topic to explore but there's particular areas I want to look at which will hopefully be reflected in my work and final realisation.

The Formula Machine uses a series of four cups, each filled with either, materials, actions, tools or stimulation words. One is picked from each cup and then filled in to a record sheet to record the words and form the formula. From this I then make the art work. The selection of realisations seen are my favourite from the process and later they are displayed in an exhibition like space I created. This official looking presentation fits in with the official way in which the art was made. 

Overall the work says a lot about who I am. I like organisation and structure. It also begins to question and look at authorship. As I don't always select a formula myself but ask other people to do it, is it their formula? But I am acting upon it to make the art work. If I had asked someone else to make art according to the same formula it would create two completely different works of art. The realisations of each formula seem completely random and disconnected but they are completely associated with one another as they are made from the same process.

Certified Hiding Place

I spent a while researching into the bunkers and compounds that terrorists and political world leaders were hiding out in. As my research concluded there was one underlying factor that was very obvious, in the end they got found. 

As a response to this I made Certified Hiding Place. A place which has officially been designated in the art studio for anyone to hide. When you are here you cannot be found but of course everyone knows where it is because it has officially been put there.
